The Glasgow College region welcomed Minister for Childcare and Early Years, Maree Todd, to City of Glasgow College this week.
The Minister was given an overview of the work being delivered across to region to support the Scottish Government’s pledge to expand the provision of free early learning and childcare in 2020.
Early Education and Childcare students and staff from each college, City of Glasgow College, Glasgow Clyde College and Glasgow Kelvin College, attended the event and outlined the progress in learning across the region and the students' experiences as part of this.
Children’s Minister Maree Todd said: “It was great to have the opportunity to visit the Glasgow College region and speak directly to the students working towards their early learning and childcare qualifications.
“As we work towards the full expansion to 1,140 hours from August 2020, encouraging more people to consider the rewarding career that ELC offers is extremely important.
“Early learning and childcare practitioners play an absolutely vital role by supporting children’s learning and development in a nurturing environment, helping to ensure all our children get the best start in life. I wish all the students I met today all the best in their careers.”
Chair of Glasgow Colleges’ Regional Board, Janie McCukser, highlighted the collaborative and strategic approach across the region, working with the colleges, councils and service providers.
Janie said: “We are very proud of the teaching, learning and partnership in place across the region to support our students’ ambitions and careers in early years’ education.
“We were delighted to welcome the Minister along and for her to hear the first-hand experiences of our Early Education and Childcare students and staff.”
